Carterville election ended in a tie…what now?

Carterville saw a recent first. A city council race ended in a tie triggering many to ask what happens next.
Due to the tied vote count in Ward 2, both candidates were given the option to either decide the outcome by “lot” such as a coin-toss or by holding a special election to determine the winner.
The City of Carterville held their regular monthly council meeting on Tuesday night where both candidates chose to forgo the decision by lot and wished to move forward with another election. The city passed a resolution supporting this decision and has scheduled the special election to be held at the Carterville Methodist Church on April the 25th from 6am to 7pm.
Any voter in Ward 2 who was already registered to vote in last week’s election may also vote in this special election.
