Tired of scam calls using fake numbers? Missouri lawmaker wants to ban ‘spoofing’

When you think of caller ID spoofing, you may think of people making misleading phone calls with bad intentions.

Representative Mitch Boggs from southwest Missouri’s La Russell wants to punish people who do that by creating the Caller ID Anti-Spoofing Act.

He tells Newstalk KZRG that he is working with AT&T to develop ways of catching the suspect making the call…“Somebody runs a red light. You know who the car owner is because you have their license number, but who’s driving the car?”  Boggs went on to say:  “So, we’re actually looking for who’s driving the car, here, we can’t just find the car owner.”

The first offense would be a class A misdemeanor, and any subsequent offenses would be a class E felony. A House committee could soon vote on the bill.
