Burlison discusses Trump Administration budget cuts on KZRG Morning Newswatch

7th District Congressman Eric Burlison appeared on the KZRG Morning Newswatch Friday morning.

Burlison has been closely watching the fight over spending cuts in Washington, D.C.

“Right now, the courts have put a stay on some of the cuts to USAID,” Burlison said. “That wasn’t a good early indicator but what the court is saying is ‘We’re not going to make a decision for another month on this and we’ll talk about that when that court case comes back.'”

Burlison said the Trump Administration is trying push the issue by using a process known as “impoundment”

“Impoundment is he President’s authority to not spend every dollar that has been appropriated,” the Congressman explained.

“What they’re planning to do is make the cuts after the fact through impoundment. The question is will the courts approve that.”

Burlison described the process of discussing the cuts with President Trump and others in the Oval Office as “surreal” for a southwest Missouri native.

Burlison talks to the KZRG Morning Newswatch team live every Friday morning.
