Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall talks storm damage

The City of Pittsburg saw extensive damage from the bout of storms that rolled through the area on Monday.
City Manager Daron Hall joined the Morning NewsWatch and told listeners that he believes straight-line winds were the culprit for the damage, which impacted trees and powerlines more than structures.
“I was amazed at how many big trees were down because really this time of year, after all the storms we’ve had, usually the weak ones were already blown over, but there was some big stuff down,” Hall said.
The most damage came on the southwest side of Pittsburg, concentrated between the bypass and Broadway and between Quincy and 4th Street. Lincoln Park, located in that area, took some damage.
“Well, unfortunately, bleachers don’t hold to the ground very well,” Hall said. “So, we did have a couple of bleachers flying around. But, the biggest thing was a storage shed that we have that’s a backup golf cart building that we keep golf equipment in. And a tree fell directly on the roof of it and took out a pretty big chunk of it. So, I think it’s secure, but it’s a metal building. … Maybe a couple other structures, but nothing significant other than, you know, you always hate to lose the big trees.”
