May is National Foster Care Month

National Foster Care Month is celebrated during May.

Foster care is there to serve broken families.

Sarah Burch with Fostering Hope tells Newstalk KZRG what is needed most.:

“We don’t have enough caseworkers. Their caseloads generally are pretty high. We don’t have enough foster families. You know, it’d be ideal if we could have so many foster families in our community that when a kid comes into foster care, they could find the best fit for that child instead of just finding the one empty, you know, opening that’s available.”

Burch went on to say:

“The primary goal is if kids come into the foster care system, Children’s division, and then MBCH Children and Families, those are the two organizations in our area that license foster homes and work with foster families. Their goal is to get kids back to their biological families. And so it’s working with those families, offering services to the parents, trying to get that home stabilized so the kids can move back home.”
