Galena USD 499 presents April 8 bond issue to voters

The Galena, Kansas, school district is asking for a bond a $7.5 million bond issue in the April 8 election.

Galena USD 499 says this will not result in any increase in the current mill levy.

With 51% state aid, school officials say the community will bear less than half of the total cost of the bond.

The funds will go towards several key improvements within the district:

New Preschool Center: We will remove the modular buildings at Spring Grove and construct a new preschool center that includes a storm shelter and an age-appropriate playground for our youngest learners.

Renovation of the Liberty Building: We plan to remodel the aging Liberty building to better serve our students and staff.

New Classrooms for Special Education: The modular building located east of the Liberty building will be removed to make way for new classrooms in the Gene Russell building, specifically designed for our special education students.

High School and Liberty Connector Improvements: We will enhance the connector between the high school and Liberty buildings, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for our students.”
