Senate slams brakes on House plan to fast track Chiefs, Royals package

NOTE:  This story has been corrected after receiving more information from House Budget Committee Chairman Dirk Deaton.

For the second time in two working days, the Missouri House has thrown the Missouri Senate another last-minute curve ball. 

This time, on an incentive package to pay up to half the cost of new and improved stadiums to keep the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in Missouri. 

To teach the House a lesson, a bipartisan group of senators, including Appropriations Committee Chairman Lincoln Hough, blocked a vote and adjourned early…

“I’m going to point out the hypocrisy of individuals who say they stand on principle and say they are concerned about the financial implications that are made this year and just obligated potentially $900 million worth of financing,” says Hough.

House Budget Committee Chairman Dirk Deaton told Newstalk KZRG that there were no negotiations held between the Missouri House and Senate on House Bill 19.  Deaton went on to say the operating budget was passed by the house, the Senate changed their version of the bill and sent it back to the house.  The differences in the operating budget were negotiated between the chambers in a conference..
